Disaster porn – San Andreas review

Disaster flicks are surprisingly difficult to get right. As simple as you may think it is, it has to be just right to keep our attention. Look at The Day After Tomorrow; special effects were great, but the story was a bit dull and the film itself got boring in its second act. How about 2012; special effects were fantastic, but the cast and also the story just weren’t right and it felt more like a mockery of the 2012 theory rather than a decent disaster movie. However, I’m glad to be able to say that after viewing San Andreas, I’m very pleased.

What’s scarier? Quite a lot – Poltergeist review

I’ve always had a soft spot in my heart for horror remakes. As a wee boy I watched films like The Ring and The Grudge, and obviously I was terrified. Even to this day I find them pretty creepy. But what is important to remember, the original films were foreign classics, giving more room for originality in a remake.

Mystique moves on – Jennifer Lawrence to leave X-Men

Jennifer Lawrence has become one of the world’s most famous actresses in recent years. Following performances in The Hunger Games, Silver Linings Playbook and also recent X-Men films, it will come as no surprise she is very much in demand. Fortunately for those wanting her for their movies, her X-Men contract is up after X-Men Apocalypse, and she has said it’ll be her last film in the franchise.
