A sequel to Disney’s 2010 ‘TRON: Legacy’ will start production this Autumn.
This may come as a surprise to those who have seen the previous film. For those who haven’t, let me enlighten you.
TRON: Legacy told the story of Sam Flynn (Garrett Hedlund), the son of Kevin Flynn (Jeff Bridges), once the world’s leading video game developer. When his father disappears, he investigates and finds himself sucked into a digital world where his father has been living for 20 years. The world, which is far more evolved than the digital landscape in Disney’s 1982 original ‘TRON’ contains obstacles for Sam to get over in order to escape, including the infamous gladiatorial games and a ruthless villain.
The film itself received both praise and criticism. Most of the praise centred on the film’s visuals, creating a vibrant new world more vast than we could have ever imagined. Also, the film’s score, performed by Daft Punk, genuinely couldn’t have been any better. However, pretty much everything else was criticised. The script itself wasn’t very original. Ideas presented in the film weren’t really expanded on as much as they could have, and the actor’s performances didn’t really blow anyone away.
Despite this though, I’m a big fan of TRON: Legacy. Yes it has its flaws, but it’s an incredibly fun film to watch. Perhaps the novelty of the digital landscape wore off for some viewers, but I couldn’t get enough of it.

However, my opinion can’t change what everyone is thinking. The film had quite a poor performance critically and at the box office, so news of a sequel is much to the surprise of movie goers.
Joseph Kosinski, the director, has said that some characters established early on in TRON: Legacy will have a much bigger part in the sequel. However, we are all curious to see how Kosinski plans to improve upon Legacy.
Whatever you do though Kosinski, please get Daft Punk back to do the soundtrack.
