Perhaps you wouldn’t imagine to read a list of the best film trailers? Well when you think about it, trailers are incredibly important to a film’s life cycle. They kickstart the hype train, often sending fans into a frenzy or a meltdown. One of my favourite things to do is watch trailers, so let’s have a look at the 10 best ones out there!
10. Terminator 2: Judgement Day
The original teaser for this incredible sequel gave nothing away about the film. All we knew after watching was that he would indeed, be back.
9. The Blair Witch Project
A truly impressive trailer for it’s time, it took full advantage of the film’s plot to market The Blair Witch Project as real footage. It isn’t actually real is it?
What Boyhood done right was explaining the plot without spoiling anything. Pair that with the perfect choice of song, you have a lovely little trailer.
7. Man of Steel
This trailer gave me, someone who isn’t the biggest Superman fan, goosebumps. A beautiful score and amazing effects – spot-on.
6. The Raid 2
Seriously man, this trailer is just flat-out awesome. From the get-go it’s super intense, but soon moves on to the frantic action that makes The Raid films.
Christopher Nolan’s film is a masterpiece, everyone knows it. But the trailer intrigued everyone, with it’s unique plot and mind-boggling shots.
4. Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring
Way-back-when the first Lord of the Rings film was released, the trailer perfectly braced us for the wonderful fantasy about to hit our screens. Never before had people seen such an imaginative trailer. “YOU SHALL NOT PASS!”
Now, this trailer is one of my all-time favourites. I had no idea what this film was, then I saw the trailer. I sat in silence for 10 seconds, and played it on repeat. It showed us a new take on having super-powers, as well as playing with the found-footage element.
2. The Dark Knight Rises
The teaser trailer for The Dark Knight Rises is to put it simply, staggering. It’s haunting and intense, setting up the final chapter of a fantastic trilogy. Brief glimpses of our new villain and that glorious score from Hans Zimmer at the end make this trailer one of the greats.
The trailer for the first Alien film in 1979 is definitely, without a doubt the best trailer ever made – here’s why. The trailer starts with a shot of an egg, which takes up nearly half of the trailer. Following the title reveal, it moves on to a montage of various shots from the film, with a recurring shot of running down a corridor. It fills the viewer with dread, and even today it scares me. However, the iconic score in the trailer is what will make you feel uneasy more than anything else.
