Keep em’ comin – Marvel announces Ant-Man sequel, and three untitled films

Marvel has announced not only an Ant-Man sequel for 2017, but three untitled films for 2020.

The sequel to the superhero hit is to be named Ant-Man and The Wasp, and will be released specifically on July 6 2018. This has came off the back of the surprising success for Ant-Man, with its box office earnings worldwide sitting at a cool $409m. Check out my review of Ant-Man here.

This is excellent as it fits right in with Phase 3 of the MCU. Despite the fact that this is the second time the “set-in-stone” schedule has been altered since it was set – the first being Spider-Man’s arrival – I don’t believe anyone will complain about seeing the world’s smallest hero again. Especially since this time he will be teaming up with the Wasp, with Evangeline Lily reprising her role. This will not only be excellent on screen but it’s a positive step forward with regards to the lack of female superheroes in the MCU. It is also the first time a female Marvel superhero has been included in the title – winning.

Ant-Man will return!

This entry into the MCU however has changed the dates for other releases. The bad news is Captain Marvel – the big female superhero release – has been pushed back to March 8 2019, but, for all those that have kept in tabs with the release dates, July 6 was the previous date for Black Panther. Which brings me to the good news; we’re getting Black Panther early! He has been brought forward to February 16 2018, which is excellent news regardless.

Also a positive thing to note, the release dates for the Infinity War movies haven’t been altered at all, so Thanos’ destruction shan’t be any later than planned (for the time being).

Prepare for this big guy folks, it will be mental.

Now as for the three untitled movies. Their release dates are May 1, July 10 and November 6 2020. Do these films mark the start of Phase 4? It is an exciting prospect isn’t it? So many films yet to come in Phase 3, yet we may be starting to find out what’s coming next. I wouldn’t like to speculate what could be coming just yet, but perhaps a further Guardians sequel, or something even better (I shall wait to share these thoughts).

Here is the updated schedule of MCU films to come:

Captain America: Civil War – May 6, 2016

Doctor Strange – November 4, 2016

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 – May 5, 2017

Untitled Spider-Man film – July 28, 2017

Thor: Ragnarok – November 3, 2017

Black Panther – February 16, 2018

Avengers: Infinity War — Part 1 – May 4, 2018

Ant-Man and the Wasp – July 6, 2018

Captain Marvel – March 8, 2019

Avengers: Infinity War — Part 2 – May 3, 2019

Inhumans – July 12, 2019

Untitled – May 1, 2020

Untitled – July 10, 2020

Untitled – November 6, 2020

I don’t know about you guys but this news is dynamite. As the MCU grows larger, so does my excitement. Let me know what you think in the comments below, or send a tweet using the widgets to @frew_cameron.
